The Effectiveness of Skin Creams
Do Skin Creams Work?
There's been a lot in the press lately on how we are all being misled about the effectiveness of skin creams. Advertising watchdogs have stated that there simply isn't enough evidence to show that anti-wrinkle creams and anti-cellulite creams really do work. So, in the meantime, certain advertisements have been banned until they can portray a more realistic claim.
That's why we use Karin Herzog creams at Beauty of Bedford. They really do work and this week I will explain how.
Dr Paul Herzog

Dr Paul and Karin Herzog
Founder of the Karin Herzog skincare range, he was born in 1911 in Bucharest, Romania, where he stayed until 1929 to continue his studies in Vienna. From Vienna, he left for Stockholm where he began his career.
He worked at the Nobel Institute of Stockholm for 30 years and it was here where he assisted in the discovery and the development of the Respirator - the machine used widely in hospitals to keep lungs ventilated during operations. He also invented a method to humidify the respiratory tracts through the aid of ultra-sound, and how to reach the exact measurement of humidity needed on inspiration. He also invented how to calculate artificial ventilation and this method is now used widely all over the world.
So, after 30 years of hard work and amazing discoveries, Dr Paul Herzog decided to retire. But a man with such an active mind could not sit still for too long. Understanding the importance of oxygen for every single living thing, he decided to find a way to stabilise oxygen in the form of an emulsion. All his research and work was always intended for medicinal use. He was successful in his aim, and patented his discovery world-wide.
The main reason for this invention was to sterilise surgeons' hands before surgery. It wasn't long before a noticeable difference was found - surgeons' hands were appearing younger looking and softer. On this finding, Karin Herzog - Dr Paul Herzog's wife, decided to test the creams on her face. Within days she noticed a difference in her skin and the beauty professional urged her husband to turn his attention to cosmetology.
And so he did. Here began his research into the ageing process of the skin. He discovered that one of the main reasons as to why the skin ages, is due to the drop of oxygen pressure under the skin's surface. Dr Herzog also discovered the relationship between the ageing process of the skin, oxygen and vitamin A and this too was patented worldwide in 1990. He named this new skincare range after his beloved wife, and called it simply 'Karin Herzog'. Dr Herzog never stopped working but sadly, in 1992 he died in his laboratory at the age of 80 from a rupture of the aorta. However, his work continues ...
Let skin breathe
Let skin breathe is the philosophy that the Karin Herzog brand works by. The skin is an amazing organ that has the ability to look after itself. It is when we lack nutrients and energy that things start to go downhill.
Karin Herzog products deliver many ingredients to the skin including oxygen, water, vitamins A and E and glucose. These allow the skin to heal and look after itself in the most natural way possible. By delivering only what the skin recognises and needs, the skin knows exactly what to do with these ingredients. For this reason, Karin Herzog creams are compatible with every skin type. How many creams can boast that?
With Karin Herzog products there is no need for any hype. In simple packaging, these creams get results - without the need for any mechanical intervention. These creams are often imitated but no other cream has the ability to put these raw ingredients directly into the skin.
So how do these creams work?
Dr Paul Herzog achieved the amazing task of stabilising oxygen and trapping it into a cream. On contact with the skin, the liquid oxygen converts to a gas, with a pressure of ten atmospheres - this is like an injection of gas into the skin. This 'injection' of oxygen stimulates a massage of the outer layers of the skin while unblocking the capillaries, allowing them to deliver nutrients to skin cells without any obstacles. From the age of only 14, our oxygen levels begin to drop. However, it is from the age of 24 that our capillaries begin to thicken due to a build up of toxins from our diet and pollution.

Dr Paul Herzog came up with two very important conclusions as to why our skin ages:
- 1. A reduction in collagen production, with elastin fibres losing their capacity to retain water
- 2. A decrease in oxygenation, due to a slowing down in capillary activity, which weakens the skins natural nutrition process and thus slows down cellular regeneration - skin becomes thinner; wrinkles and unsightly brown spots start to appear.
It is not only getting older that affects our skin. Smoking, stress, pollution, ill health, and diet all contribute to a depletion of our oxygen levels. Karin Herzog creams allow us to redress this problem whatever our skin type - male, female, old, young, oily, dry, black or white - they put back into the skin what age and nature has taken out. No other company can address such a large spectrum of skin types with just one product.
After having a Karin Herzog facial you can easily see and feel the difference in your skin. If you use the home skincare it won't take long before your skin is really transformed. These creams really are unrivalled; two world patents speak for themselves and so do the thousands of satisfied customers, including many celebrity A-listers.
So that is why at Beauty of Bedford, we only use Karin Herzog products in all of our treatments.
